Show Three SU Players named to NA1A team LEONARD WALTERSCHEID MIKE SHAW Three Southern Utah State College football players, all from the defensive unit, have been named to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics all-District Seven team. Noseguard Mike Shaw, tackle Terry Lundberg, and defensive back Leonard Walterscheid are the three Thunderbirds honored with spots on the 12-man defensive squad. All three T-Birds honored are seniors. Shaw is a 6-0, 220-pound second-year letterman from Las Vegas' Rancho High School. He played two years at Dixie College in St. George before transferring to SUSC. Lundberg will receive his fourth football letter at SUSC this year. The 6-2, 220 pound veteran came to SUSC as a freshman from Roosevelt and Union High School. Walterscheid is a native of Moab. He has played four seasons for the Thunderbirds. He is a repeat selection on the NAIA District Seven squad. Last year he was named as an offensive end and as a defensive specialist in a rare double selection. He was also an NAIA honorable mention all-American in 1975. The T-Birds, who finished the season with five wins and five losses, earned fourth place in the 10-team Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. "These three are all mighty fine football players. There is no question but what we'll miss them next year," Tom Kingsford, SUSC's head coach, says. Western State College of Gunnison, Colo., had five players selected to the all-district team. SUSC, Colorado Mines, Fort Q1R Lewis, and Westminster each named three players to the squad. Two players each were chosen from Adams State and Eastern New Mexico, while University of Southern Colorado and New Mexico Highlands University each had one selection. selec-tion. The Mountaineers from Western State won the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship and will represent the district in the NAIA national championship playoffs.
