Show One-on-One Basketball Program December 11 is the date set for the starting of this years 4-H One-on-One Basketball Program. Any youth, boy or girl, ages 9 to 14 on January 1, 1977 is eligible to participate. Young people may sign up to participate in the program at the Iron County Extension Office or at their school. According to Lynn Esplin, Iron County Extension Agent, Cedar City youth will meet on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Cedar City Jr. High School Boys Gym. They will meet on December 11 and 18 and January 8 and 15 with the Five-county Five-county area play-offs being held on January 22. Winners of the Five-county competition will compete for state honors at Utah State University, in Logan on February 5. The program is a state-wide effort being sponsored by the Extension Service and Athletic Department at USU. The purpose pur-pose of the 4-H One-on-One Basketball Program is to provide an opportunity for youth to participate in a structural basketball program which will teach them a number of important im-portant educational concepts, while at the same time providing an occasion for fun and individual in-dividual competition. The objectives of the program are to teach the rules and skills of basketball while emphasizing other important concepts associated with sports, such as: improving sportsmanship and grooming; good food and nutrition practices; safety and first aid; and standards, conditioning con-ditioning and health. |
