Show Jewish Rabbi schedules SUSC lecture j "Sex and the Single God" will be the topic of discussion ! December 8 when guest lecturer Rabbi Abner Law rence Bergman visits Southern Utah State College. Bergman is the Rabbi of Congregation Kol Ami, Salt Lake City. He will speak in the SUSC Music Recital Hall at 2 p.m. as a guest lecturer of the SUSC Visiting Lecture Series Com mittee. "The context of the Rabbi's speech will center on the Jew ish faith, its concept of God, morality and sex," Richard A. Dotson, spokesman for the Visiting Lecture Series, said. "Rabbi Bergman is a dynamic, entertaining and informative speaker," Professor Dotson said, "We encourage everyone to join us for a very stimulating and ' I f M I: tu i , 0m f A interesting lecture." The Salt Lake City Rabbi received a BA in psychology from the State University of New-York New-York at Buffalo, where he was president of the student senate, captain of the debate team and earned letters in football, basketball and track. He received BHL and HAHL degrees and was ordained a Rabbi at Hebrew Union College-Jewish College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Prior to settling in Salt Lake City, he served as Assistant Rabbi for Congregation Beth Am, Los Altos Hills, California. He served as Rabbi of Congregation B'Nai Israel in Salt Lake City, a Reform Congregation, and was instrumental in-strumental in the merger of that Congregation with the Conservative Con-servative Congregation Mon-tifiore Mon-tifiore to form Congregation Kol Ami. Rabbi Bergman is very active in community affairs, serving on the board of directors for several religious, community and civic organizations in Salt Lake City. He is Past President of the Ministerial Association of Salt Lake City, the first Rabbi to hold that position. He also acts as a lecturer in Judaism and Jewish Philosophy at the University of Utah and at Westminster College. RABBI ABNER LAWRENCE BERGMAN |
