Show Beaver man heads Island recruiting post PAROWAX - A Beaver man has been named by the Air Force for an unusual position. Senior Master Sergeant Eddy N. Betenson, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Garn Betenson,-' will become commander of U.S. Air Force Recruiting activities throughout the Hawaiian Islands in early August. A veteran of 19 years Air Force service, Sergeant Betenson will be the only., enlisted man in the Air Force to command a recruiting detachment. All other detachments are commanded by commissioned officers. "My wife and I are delighted with going to Honolulu," the career airman said in his home in Parowan, Utah. Beside him was his wife, the former Eleanor Adams Johnson of Parowan. Sergeant Betenson began his work in Recruiting Service in 1971 with an assignment as a recruiter in the Salt Lake City office. Because of an outstanding record, he was quickly chosen to supervise all Air Force Recruiting activities throughout Utah. In 1974 he was named as Recruiting Operations Superintendant for the mountain west states. A winner of numerous national awards in recruiting, Sergeant Betenson looks on recruiting here with pride. "The quality of the young men and women Joining the Air Force from the mountain states ranks among the highest in the Nation. "We'll be in Hawaii 3 or 4 years but Ellie and the kids do look forward to coming back to Utah when I retire from the Air Force," Sergeant Betenson said. Overseas tours are not new to the Beaver High School graduate (1956). His previous tours include Japan, Germany, Italy, and Vietnam. His decorations include the Bronze Star, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, and the Presidential Unit Citation. |
