Show National survey rates Hatch conservative Orrin Hatch, Utah Republican candidate for the United States Senate, was named as one of the toplOconservative congressional candidates in the nation during this election year by a national conservative newsletter. ' The announcement, contained in the Right Report Newsletter, indicated: "In our judgment, these 10 men, if elected, will all be leaders on Capitol Hill. If they all win, they will almost double the number of effective, movement oriented conservatives con-servatives in Congress." The report included nine other candidates from throughout the country, including Indiana, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Nebraska, California, Colorado and Utah. These men were selected according to their ability to unseat the incumbents they will face in November. Utah's man, Orriri Hatch, was characterized as "a successful attorney who made a reputation for himself by repeatedly taking on the Federal Bureaucracy in Federal Court and winning." The report continued, "no one gave,, Mr. Hatch much chance to win a place on the September 14 GOP Frimary ballot, but he ran strongly at the state GOP convention." con-vention." The report went on to cite the recent poll by the "Salt Lake City Deseret News which shows Hatch now leading in his primary for the right to contest liberal Democrat incumbent Senator Frank Moss." The poll mentioned men-tioned was conducted for the Deseret News by Dan Jones of Logan. The poll indicated that Mr. Hatch had established a 9 percent statewide lead over his Republican opponent for the primary election. Mr. Hatch, when informed of his selection to this group, commented, "I have been extremely ex-tremely grateful to those Utah people who have made it possible for me to seriously challenge Senator Moss. I am very pleased that some of the leaders around the nation are now seeing the prospects of defeating Mr. Moss as being excellent. I am the only non-Washington candidate in this race. If the people of Utah will give me the opportunity to represent them in the US Senate, then I promise that I will work, fight, and win for the State of Utah." |
