Show Parowan City adjusts Mill Levy; plan Medical Clinic PAROWAN - The Parowan City Council has again adjusted the mill levy and it has been set at 14.2 mills. Earlier this year it was set at 13.5 but because of re-evaluation re-evaluation in the county the city feels the 14.2 mills would still be within the law that says property taxes cannot be raised more than 6 percent over last years taxes. Frank Adams, Benson Haycock, Florence Mitchell and D. Watson Adams, met with the council to discuss the proposed medical clinic to , be built . in Parowan. The council has agreed to make land available North of the Swiss Village restaurant on the north end of first east They ieel there is enough land there to build the type of facility they nave planned. Apublic meeting will be held in the near future to discuss the plans t with the , citizens of Parowan. The mayor of Fillmore will be invited as a guest speaker. Fillmore has just recently completed a medical building there and now have 2 doctors practicing there. Fire Chief Albert Orton attended at-tended the meeting and announced an-nounced that Federal : Funds have been approved in the amount of $1583.85 to assist with the cost of a hew fire siren that ,-' :i will be placed in an appropriate v. part of town, possibly somewhere near the firehouse. Chief of Police, Dan Harris, was at the meeting. He reported that his department has recently purchased a tranquilizer gun to be used on stray dogs that are hard to catch. The police department is also now equipped to put animals to sleep if people desire it done. A small fee will be charged. Deputy Police Officer James Broadwell has had a great deal of experience in this method and in matters of dog control. This is a very humane way to dispose of dogs with one shot of a drug that puts them to sleep and will be used to dispose of unlicensed dogs. Brian Head's . Mayor Emenegger attended the meeting to discuss Brian Head Towns garbage problems. He had asked if it would be possible to take the Parowan city garbage truck to Brian Head two days a week to pick up garbage. The council was opposed to this because they felt the truck was not built to stand the wear and tear the mountain road would put on it. So Brian Head is now considering several other options to solve their problem. Sherwin Dalton and Caudell Orton attended the meeting representing D and O Sanitation company, rney maae a proposal that they take over the city garbage collection service. They plan to dispose of the garbage by dumping it into a pit at the Iron Mine. They presently have a contract in Iron County and are picking up trash in some mountain areas. The council asked them to submit a written proposal as to what they would contract the service for. Then the city will make a decision on the proposal. Nick Caravelli, owner of J.D. Lounge was at the meeting to protest the application by Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Kenyon for a beer, set-up and mini bottle license. He also asked that the city allow Sunday sale of beer on Sundays during 3 day holidays. This request was refused. Some discussion was held on putting the Sunday beer sale issue on the ballot to let the people decide on it. No decision was made on this. Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Kenyon were at the meeting to hear the council's decision on their request for a license. The council granted them a Class C beer license but not a set-up or mini-bottle mini-bottle license. Their new lounge will be opened where the Fun Factory has been located ,7 |
