Pageant Master of Ceremonies for this year's Miss Iron County Pageant, held in connection with the Iron County Fair, will be local television personality Bob Welti.." ' .; , ' ,; The pageant is scheduled for September 3,,ajt ,7:30 p.m. in the Cedar City High School Auditorium. The pageant, will kick off an entire weekend" pf activities. ; Bob Welti has been seen on the TV screens of the Intermountain Area perhaps longer and more consistently than any other TV personality. During his 20 some years of weather broadcasting, his program has been the most popular show of its type, often obtaining ratings in the top 10, more popular than many of the top network shows. Bob is one of the true local television pioneers, starting at KCPX-TV back in 1947, when the call letters were Experimental Station W-6XIS. He worked his, way from Prop Man to Announcer, An-nouncer, to Director, to Production Manager. Welti later organized his own advertising agency, "Bob Welti Advertising, Inc." which now occupies much of his working day. He and sportscaster buddy, Paul James, to KSLtTV in" the summer of 1965. : ;-;. Bob got his weather training and experience as a pilot in the United States Navy during World War II and keeps up to date on latest weather developments daily at briefings at the United States Weather Bureau Regional Office. A much sought-after speaker, Bob has given talks throughout the Intermountain West on a variety of subjects. The Welti family consists of Bob, Georgia and five daughters: Elizabeth, Nancy, Susan, Deanne and Marianne. They reside at 3696 Lois Lane. Their principal hobbies are boating and water sports in the summer and skiing in the winter. |
