Show i Cedar High Redmen win one lose one; Homecoming Game features El Dorado High It's homecoming at Cedar High School this week and one of the feature events of the week-long observance will be the Homecoming game pitting the Redmen against El Dorado High School of Las Vegas, Nev, The game is set for 8 p.m. at the Cedar High School field, For the Redmen it will be their third outing of the season-losing 7-6 to Basic at Henderson in the season opener then taking Bear River to task 26-16 in action last week. For the Redmen they are expecting the El Dorado crew to come up with a passing attack. "We defeated the Las Vegas crew 20-0 last year, but the game was closer than the score would indicate," according to Coach Jack Bishop of the Redmen. El Dorado will be tough on the line. They have good size on their defensive line and we expect them to put the ball in the air offensively he commented. As for the Redmen they came out of the Bear River game with no major injuries and will again be depending on a strong running game for their offense, j "We are still working on our I passing attack, and our pass defense." Coach Bishop said. The Redmen feel that they must develop their passing game to augment their impressive rushing game. At this point of the season the Redmen have one pass completion in two games. We depend on speed for our running game, but if they bottle us up on the rush we have to have diversification through the air if we are going to be. a strong contender in the 3A ranks this year, the coach noted. El Dorado is untested this season. The battle against the Redmen will be their first of the season. BIG GAIN FOR REDMEN. Robert Morris 24, takes handoff from quarterback Charles Judd and pops through hole in line created by Eric Schmuts, 79, and other offenisve linemen. Action was against Bear River with Redmen gaining 26-16 26-16 win over the tough northern rivals. In action against Bear River the Cedar High School coaching staff felt good about their offensive of-fensive and defensive lines. They elected Roger Seegmiller as the outstanding defensive lines, man in the Bear River game. Seegmiller plays at the noseguard spot and was credited with eight tackles in that contest. Offensively the coaching staff also elected a lineman, Eric Sch-mutz, Sch-mutz, as the outstanding offensive of-fensive player. Schmutz turned in some fine line blocking to spring the backs loose through the line and he also played on defense. For his efforts he was named the offensive player of the game by the coaching staff. The Bears of Bear Rivers elected to try for a four and two on their own 48 yard line on the second series of downs in the game and the Cedar High defense held giving the Redmen excellent field position midway through the period. The Redmen drove to the 18 where their running attack was stimied and with just 32 seconds remaining in the period Wells booted a 36 yard fieldgoal to put the Redmen out in front 3-0. That initial score seemed to give the Redmen the boost they needed and they controlled the ball through the remainder of the half. After intercepting a pass on their own 36 the Redmen, in the second quarter of play, drove on a series of downs to the eight yard line, but were again stopped. stop-ped. Wells came on with just four seconds remaining in the period and booted a 35 yard field goal to send the Redmen to the lockers for the intermission with .a 6-0 lead. In the third period the Redmen running game broke loose and they picked up a pair of scores to put the game on ice. Early in the period Robert Morris broke off tackle and scampered 57 yards to the eight yard line and three plays later Charles Judd, quarterback, carried it over from the three on a keeper. The attempt for a two point conversion was stopped. Later on in the same period Brad Jackson, who had only four carries in the game, broke off left tackle and scamper for the sidelines for i 43 yards and another score and Wells booted the extra point to give the Redmen a 19-0 lead. Early in the fourth period the visiting Bears recovered a Redman fumble on their own 38 and with an aerial attack put their first score on the boards with 7:59 remaining in the game. The big play of the series was a Mark Williams to Roger Norr pass good for 19 yards to the Redman 17. A pass interference call put the ball on the eight and three plays later Curt Kidman scored from the three and Chris Webb dove over for a two point conversion. For the Redmen the fireworks was not over., Bear River kicked off following the TD. Morris was held for no gain and on the next play Jackson, who appeared to be stopped at the line of scrimmage, scrim-mage, found a hole on the left side, and again outran the Bear River secondary for a 69 yard scoring play. Wells booted the extra point. In the final six minutes of play Bear River generates a 77 yard drive for a score with 55 secdnds remaining on the clock. The score came on a pass from Williams to Howard Rawlingson and the two teamed, again through the air, for a two point conversion. Individually the top rusher was Robert Morris with 117 yards in 15 carries. Close behind was Brad Jackson with 115 yards in four carries, including two TD's. Running at fullback was Alan Moss with 22 yards in 8 carries and Judd had 24 yards in 16 carries. |
