Show Aero-Squadron for Iron County ' Aero-Squadron, a branch of the County Sheriff's department, is being formed in Iron County, the first such squadron in Utah. According to Ron Ambuehl, Cedar City Municipal Airport manager and. organizer of the group, Aero-Squadron has numerous groups throughout the west. He said the mobile emergency group is not associated with the Civil Air Patrol, but is a branch of local sheriff's departments. The group's first meeting was held Wednesday night at the Airport Restaurant. "We do anything that the sheriff thinks can be done better, more economically, or more effectively from the air," Ambuehl said, "such as stolen vehicle search, lost children, overdue hunters, even transporting of prisoners, if needed." Ambuehl said the group will have about 12 members initially, all of whom will be members of the sheriff's department. The group consists of pilots primarily and also a group of EMT (Emergency Medical Technicians) parachutists, he added. A good deal of equipment is being donated or gotten as surplus for the group's use, he added. A mobile field kitchen, a pick-up truck and the possibility of a helicopter, are some of the equipment Aero-Squadron plans on using. |
