Eastman said his family established their roots in American soil in 1630, 146 years before the signing of the Declaration of Independence. He said he is a convert to the LDS church, and has served as Branch President and Bishop. vs"fV Eastman said President Ford has a plan to "double government govern-ment land ownership, if elected," based, he said, on Mr. Ford's recent speech in Yellowstone Park. "As of this date,"' Eastman' said, "the federal . government administers and controls 760 million acres, or about one-third of the gross area of the United States. So if Mr. Ford carries out his intention to double the federally controlled parks, forests and wilderness areas, over one-half of the United States land will be controlled by federal bureaucrats. And this does not include the area owned and controlled by the individual states." Eastman said taxes will have to be further increased on private property, private land, homes, businesses, wages, gasoline, fuel oil, energy, food, clothing and medicine, in order to furnish park and recreational facilities for the new park lands President Ford envisions. "This," Eastman added, "is in addition to the doubled or tripled bureaucracy to manage the land." Eastman, who calls himself the 12th generation American, said he will work for local control of all phases of governmental programs. He is running on the American Party ticket. Eastman, has announced his candidacy for State Legislator, saying his decision to enter the race "gives the many disfranchised disfran-chised voters in District 74 a choice over the same old, hashed over, and worn out political rhetoric that has been fed to the American people for more than 100 years by the bi-partisan twins, the Republicans and the Democrats." Eastman said present national candidates Ford and Carter represent "the eastern establishment, establish-ment, the coalition of environmentalists, en-vironmentalists, Redrord-type playboys and Washington bureaucrats, who want to keep southern Utah as their private playground." |
