Show Letter to the Editor Dear Editor: In the September 2, 1976 issue of the Iron County Record, Jim Clark, Republican candidate for a four-year County Commissioner's Com-missioner's term, is quoted as saying that rates at the Valley View Medical Center are twenty percent higher than Dixie Medical Center's rates. Mr. Clark did not seek any rate information in-formation from me, nor from Dixie Medical Center's administrator. ad-ministrator. Just to set the record straight, 1 Cedar City and St. George for the goof of Cedar City, well as Iron bounty as a whole. G. D. Macfcnnald has the time and the necessary finances, to do this job better than any man we could pick for this job. For the first time in 10 years, the hospital is in the black, time will prove the advantages of pulling out of the 5-county organization. I should Bke to solicite everybody's Bte for Mr. G. D. MacDonald. Adrian Baldwin , hospital rates are about the same. Both hospitals' rates are low enough to attract substantial j numbers of patients from ; Nevada. In fact, one out of every ten patients admitted to the Valley View Medical Center is ! from Nevada. i Elwood Harrison, ad- ministrator at Dixie Medical Center, and I share the common , goal of maintaining relatively low hospital rates. Toward this end, he and I are working together to avoid duplication of costly services. I . I hope that the rest of Mr. Clark's platform can withstand the scrutiny of discerning ears and eyes. His desire to eliminate Federal funding seems compromised com-promised by his plan to bring back the federally funded Five-County Five-County organization. His desire , to limit taxation, while increasing in-creasing expenditures on senior citizens, seems somewhat contradictory and ignores the fact that our country has an j aging population. Thus, in-l in-l creasing financial commitments to the elderly today will become proportionately greater in the future due to this aging trend I (the Social Security Ad- ministration can tell you all f about that), i Reginald L. Hughes Administrator Valley View Medical Center Dear Editor: ) How fortunate we are to have a man seeking a second term for a I 4-year county commissioner I Mr. G. D. MacDonald, a man j that managed U S Steel Co. for I many years. I am sure everybody recognizes bis ability ? to handle finances. I Let's elect a man and utilize his ability, Jime, and knowledge Dear Editor: This is the first letter to an editor I have ever written, but I feel compelled at this time to write. With regards to the 4 year Iron County Commissioner seat, I have met and talked with both Mr. Clark and Mr. MacDonald, and in my opinion I consider Mr. Clark to be a most humble and worthy potential public servant. I could wholeheartedly support him at any time in the future, but my words today are for Mr. MacDonald. I have had the opportunity op-portunity over the last year and a half to have met and talked with Mr. MacDonald and watch him at his work. I have continually been impressed im-pressed with his intellect, per-ceptiveness, per-ceptiveness, and his ability to analyze and institute solutions to potential problems, in spite of the fact that he could possibly be up to his proverbial hips in alligators. He has proven his worth in the private sector, and as our county approaches the need for a full time commissioner com-missioner at 4 to 5 times the current salary, it would be surely a bargain for this county to receive his talents full time, as he is now retired from private work. I find it regrettable that several of the voting districts felt it necessary to "uninvite" Mr. MacDonald to their meetings, because if they had, I'm sure those in attendance would have perceived the concern and dedication this gentleman feels for the citizens of this county. It is my sincere belief that this county could do no better than to have Graham MacDonald for it's next 4-year commissioner. Thank you. Respectfully, R. E. Buckalew, M.D. |
