Show Council asked to approve garbage franchise The Cedar City Council was informed in last' Thursday's meeting that the Mosdell Refuse Service of Cedar had obtained a new truck for picking up garbage, gar-bage, and were asked by City Manager Mike Embley to finalize the pending franchise for Cedar City garbage pick-up. The franchise had been conditional con-ditional upon the Mosdell company getting a new truck. Embley said the city attorney is presently drawing up the final draft for the franchise contract. The council also tabled action on a request by Reed Embley of Deseret Ambulance Service to be granted exclusive ambulance franchise for the Cedar City area. The tabling action was to allow for a more detailed study of the materials presented by Embley and to fine out what other cities of comparable size do for ambulance service. Authorization was also given by the council for the city to transfer funds from the Water Department to the general fund to pay $10,800 in architect's fees already incurred in the designing of a proposed city building., It was also reported in last week's meeting that Cedar was one of the lowest communities in the state for cost per capita in maintaining police protection. A report from the Utah Cities Police Departments Survey showed that police services amounted to $17.34 per person. The report also stated Cedar City ranked the best in the FBI's crime index in Utah for cities of the same population classification. The council also directed the City Manager to begin collecting a fee for use of the land fill dump from those presently not covered under city fees, such as federal government agencies. The fee was set at $1 per cubic yard. The council also tabled a request made by a local mobile home park owner to change the city ordinance requiring a $1 garbage fee for mobile home spaces, regardless of whether they are empty or full. Scott Atkin, owner, said he felt the fee hurts those court owners who.are not always able to keep all stalls full. |
