Show Bryce Canyon Travel For 1963 Shows Tremendous Increase Considerable speculation exists throughout Utah as to whether this summer's travel season will exceed that of past years. Recent data from Bryce Canyon Nation-1 al Park would indicate very def- j initely that Utah will enjoy one of the biggest travel seasons in the state's history, according to Superintendent Louis W. Hal-lock. Hal-lock. Travel Into Bryce Canyon over the Memorial Day week end shows an Increase of 50.7 over that for the same period of last year. Campground use for the same period shows an even greater grea-ter Increase 163. For the travel year to date, from Jan. 1, travel into the park has Increased 19 over the same period last year Jan. 1 to June 1. Comparing travel data for May, 1962 with May 1963 it is found that the increase is 38. For .example, 23,336 persons visited ' Bryce Canyon in may 1963 while only 16,915 persons visited the park in May 1962. The general increase in the number of visitors and families It is interesting to note that the new Sunset Campground completed last summer was expected ex-pected to meet camping needs camping out is the most remarkable, remark-able, showing a 125 increase over last year. . There have been similar increases in-creases in visitor use of the lodging and food facilities at the 1 Bryce Canyon Inn. I for several years to come. According Ac-cording to present upward travel I trends this campground will not imeet the requirements for the 1964 season. |
