Show Children's Drama Classes Offered at CSU Classes in creative dramatics for children will be offered at College Col-lege of Southern Utah beginning Monday, June 17. Miss Carol Lynn Wright, who has been ie- in the Utah Shakespearean Fest-tival Fest-tival production of "As You Like It," will conduct classes for children chil-dren ages 8-11 and 12-14. Miss Wright received B.. A. and M. A. degrees in drama from Brigham Young University and has taught dramatics and English Eng-lish at Snow College in Ephraim during the past year. While at BYU she starred in a number of productions including "Joan of Arc," 'The Matchmaker," "The Heiress," "The Glass Menagerie," "King Lear," and others and was recipient of the BYU best actress award twice. She played a leading lead-ing role in the production of "Blythe Spirit" which toured the Drient in 1960 for the USO. Her musical fantasy for children, "P?"""," y produced si EYU in March and presented at elementary ele-mentary schools throughout the Provo area. Miss Wright explained that her creative drama classes for children chil-dren are designed to develop the imagination and dramatic responses re-sponses in children and are not concerned with the techniques and disciplines of the adult stage. This is a dramatic art form especially for the child, allowing allow-ing the participants freedom of mind and movement. Given a stimulus, such as a story, the children in a group act it out, using their own interpretation, words and actions. The classes will be taught in two-hour blocks three days a week for a five-week period. The children, ages 811 will meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays Fri-days from 1 to 3 or from 3 to 5 p. m. Those 12 to 14 will meet Tuesday's, Thursdays and Saturdays Satur-days from 1 to 3 or 3 to 5 p. m. Class fees will be $12 for five weeks. Miss Wright is also Interested In-terested in giving private drama lessons to students of any age. Registration will be Saturday, June 13 at 2 p. m. in the Bootstrap Boot-strap Theater in the Old Main Building on the CSU campus. Information In-formation may be obtained by calling 586-9481. |
