The publication, "A Reconnaissance Reconnais-sance Survey of the Coal Resources Re-sources of Southwestern Utah." as written by Richard A. Rob- Inson of the University of Utah's department of geology. The deposits located In Iron. Washington, Kane and Garfield counties. Include the Henry Mountains, Kasparowitz, Kanab and Kolob fields. The survey was conducted to arrive at a preliminary appraisal apprais-al of the quantity, quality artr e.-onomic potential of coal resources re-sources in southern Utah. The survey was Initiated during dur-ing the summer of 1962 under I tho sponsorship of the Collcgp I of Mines and Mineral Industries of the University rt Utah. The report noted that one of the principal factors In the development devel-opment of the region's estimated estimat-ed 7,200 million short tons of untapped un-tapped fuel was the distances t major otential markets.
