Show College Faculty Members to Participate in Advanced Science Study Four faculty members from the College of Southern Utah physical physi-cal science department will attend at-tend National Science Foundation Founda-tion institutes during the summer. sum-mer. Dr. Conrad Hatch, department co-chairman, will be one of 25 teachers from throughout the nation na-tion selected to attend an eight-week eight-week institute on Nuclear Science and Radioisotope Technology at University of California in Berkeley Berke-ley beginnnlg July 1. Studies will include nuclear physics and chemistry; radiobiology, specific mathematics and statistics; electronic elec-tronic and nuclear instrumentation; instrumenta-tion; nuclear reactors; research and industrial uses of radioiso- topes; radiation safety; radiation radia-tion producing devices; shielding, shield-ing, monitoring and decontamination; decontamin-ation; science curriculum development; devel-opment; and future prospects for atomic enery. The prpgram will comprise lectures, seminars, field trips and laboratory work. Dr. Hatch participated in the NSF program during the summer of 1962 as a chemistry instructor at Oregon State College In Corval-lis, Corval-lis, Oregon. Professor Frank Faux, C S U chemistry Instructor, will attend a hine-week summer institute at Louisiana State University. He will study nuclear methodology, nuclear chemistry, isotopes and detection instruments. The pro- gram will include lectures, laboratories lab-oratories and instrument practices. prac-tices. Prof Faux studied chemistry chem-istry under an NSF grant last summer at Hays State College in Kansas. Professor Kim Jones and Steve Moss will attend University of Illinois for advanced mathematics mathema-tics study. Prof. Jones will begin studies June 17 for a 12-week session on Introduction to Higher Analysis; Introduction to Modern Algebra; and Elementary Geometry Geo-metry from a Modern Viewpoint This will be his second summer of study in a sequential four-year four-year summer program. Professor Moss began a a yearlong year-long program June 1. His studies will be basically the same as those outlined for Prof. Jones but will be completed in two semesters semes-ters rather than during the shorter short-er summer sessions. He will return re-turn to CSU June 1, 1964. |
