Show WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED? by Bob Reynolds Christ has done His part in obtaining the salvation of our souls. If we are not saved it will be because we have not done our part. In this article I want to discuss the question: ques-tion: what must I do to be saved? In the next week's article we will notice the Bible's answer ans-wer to the question. This week we will notice the question itself by analyzing it. We will first break the question down into words. The first work is "what" a word that implies that there is something required. The next word is "must". This word Indicates that it is not a question of what "should" I, or what "may" I, but what "must" I do? It is not a matter of option. The word "must" teaches the absolute necessity of the requirement. The word "I" is a personal pronoun, speaking of me and no one else. The word "do" means there is something I must do. Jesus said in Matthew 7:21, "Not everyone that saith unto me Lord, Lord, shall ent?r into the kingdom of heaven, but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven." In Luke 6:46 He said, "And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?" In spiriting of His spiritual relatives He said, "My mother and my brethern are those which hear the word of God, and do it" (Luke 8:21). James said, "Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers hear-ers only" (James 1:22). These verses emphatically state that we are to do something in order to be saved. As we continue our analysis of the question, we come to the words "to be" which denote God's part. We cannot be saved without God's grace and mercy. The final word of the question is the word "saved" which means rescued or redeemed. Now that we have broken the sentence down into words let's divide it into clauses. The first clause is active: "What must I do?" The word "do" is used instead of the words "think," "believe," "feel," etc. We are not to substitute substi-tute man's wisdom for the plain teaching of God's Word. The second clause is passive: "to be saved." Man is not saved from the sorrows of life Christians are often afflicted. af-flicted. Man is not saved from poverty either the wicked are often rich and the righteous are often poor. Man is saved from his sins (Matthew 1:21). Be sure and listen to "What does the Bible Teach?"
