Show Farowan City Council Approves Blacktop for Race Track Parking At the regular meeting of the Pa rowan City Council Monday evening, It heard progress reports from two of the council standing committees, agreed on purchase of gravel for blacktopping the parking area at the city race track and approved a new plan Xor reading water meters and collecting col-lecting for water use. D Robinson, chairman of the Hydro-Electric committee reported report-ed that a small storage pond recently re-cently built at the head of the power penstock would be In use for the winter months. This pond will store water at the low power pow-er consuming periods of each day ( and be released Into the pipeline at the periods of peak loads use of electricity in the city to aid In reducing the amount of power t purchased during the peak load periods. Bernarr Stubbs, chairman of J the water system reported that city employees are salvaging between be-tween 500 and 600 feet of steel, flow pipe, whifh has been left luried in the canvon when new pipe has been laid. Salvaging operations are going forward Just below the six mile spring in the First left hand canyon and in the mcjth of the canyon opposite the abandoned well. The council accepted a proposal propos-al from the Wardie Construction Co. to purchase 282 tons of gravel grav-el and chips to be used in black-topping black-topping the parking area at the city race track' The Wardie company com-pany rrushetl The gravel at the time it crush-J gravel for the rarowan Canyon Road project last summer and Is selling the material to Parowan City for 51-00 per ton. The blacktopping project will get under way when the gravel Is delivered to the parking area. Under the new water meter leading schedule, the meters will be read In November and then In March, with the water used during the three-month period to "be pro-rated over the three-month three-month period with the 12,000 gallons gal-lons minimum allowt for the , minimum charge. W..ter used over the minimum will be paid for following the reading in March. It was also decided to Issue a new call for bids for the sale of the old hydro-electric plant building in - Parowan Canyon, with the bids to he opened on Monday, Dec. 12, at 5 p. m. at the city office. |
