Show Tenth Annual Wool Sewing Contest Opens Awards Valued at $40,000 To Be Presented THE adage, "you reap as you sow" has been changed to "sew" by growing numbers of young women in the western states who compete each year for valuable prizes in the "Make It Yourself with Wool" Contest. In announcing the opening of the tenth annual event, Mrs. Earl S. Wright of Dubois, Idaho, National Auxiliary President, pointed out that over 8.000 girls will participate this year in the wool sewing contest. Young sewing enthusiasts in 17 western wool growing states will compete for over $40,000 in prizes including two-week trips to the fashion capitals of the world, Rome, Paris and New York, via Pan American World Airways. Over 1500 Prises Awarded District and state awards include: portable Singer sewing sew-ing machines, all-wool fabric lengths, Savings Bonds, fitted Coats and Clark sewing caddies, Dritz tracing wheels, McCall's gift sets of guides to sewing and needlecraft, jewelry, cash prizes and expense-paid trips to state finals. Two winners in each state receive trips to the National Na-tional Finals in Las Vegas, Nevada, courtesy of F. W. Wool-worth Wool-worth Company. In addition to prizes for district, dis-trict, state and national winners, each contestant receives a special spe-cial registration gift. Prize donors are: Botany Mills, Inc.; Chamberlin's Handwovens of Seattle; Colorado Woman's College; John Dritz and Sons; Forstmann Woolen Company; Handweaver and Craftsman magazine; McCall's Patterns; Pendleton Woolen Mills; Pro-ducers Pro-ducers Livestock Marketing Association; As-sociation; Singer Sewing Machine Ma-chine Co.; Standard Felt Company; Com-pany; S. Stroock St Co., Inc.; Mrs. Earl S. Wright Woolite; F. W. Woolworth Co. and I. A. Wyner. In honor of the tenth anniversary anni-versary of the contest Coats and Clark, Inc. will present a $1,000 scholarship for the most fashionable fash-ionable garment in the National Finals. Younger Division Opens For the first time this year, two awards will be made in each district for the best separate skirts entered by girls between the ages of 13 and IS. This special spe-cial contest is designed to interest in-terest younger girls in sewing with wool. The contest .is held in: Arizona, Ari-zona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Ida-ho, Iowa, Missouri, Montana Nebraska, Ne-braska, Nevada, New Mexico, Notfh Dakota, Ohio. Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. It is sponsored by local wool grower organizations, the National Wool Growers Auxiliary Aux-iliary and the Wool Bureau.
