Show Dennis Colbert Life has slowed down at the Cedar High this week as a prelude pre-lude to next week's busy schedule. sched-ule. Even so, the event of the week is the game between Par-owan Par-owan and Cedar to determine the champ of Region Six. We think the Redmen are tops' and wish them luck in the game Saturday. Also I'd like to com-gTatulate com-gTatulate the neighboring team to the north for their division championship. Congratulations, Parowan. Debate Results At the Weber College debate meet, one of the teams representing represent-ing C H S participated in the finals and made a good showing for our school. Members' of the team were Dallas Isom and Ray Endsley. Among the 1400 participants to the meet. CHS was represented by these other students: Carol Ann Parry, Bob Jones, Hugh Red-ford, Red-ford, and Lyona Cox. Miss Sidney Sid-ney Reading is the advisor. The experience they gained should prove invaluable to them In their future meets. Tryouts Begin Miss Barbara Gaddie, speech and drama instructor, announced that tryouts were being held this week for four one-act plays, two of which will be presented at the regional speech festival at Dixie College later this month. It is also planned to present these productions to the townspeople. These plays ire being presented present-ed in a different way than most. It's called the "arena style." Also, it's referred to as.'theater-in-the round." where the audience sits completely around the actors. The dates for these plays will be announced later. Student Wins Sandra Wood, a junior, was selected the winner of an American Ameri-can Legion Oratorical Contest held here recently. She then advanced ad-vanced to Panguitch 'Where she placed second in the regional meet. From there she went to Richfield where she was given honorable mention honors' in the regional meet there. Incidentally, the winner there will participate in the state contest. Congratulations, Sandra: keep up the good work. Marc-elles (By Linda Knell, President) The Marc-eUes Is a marching team consisting of 24 sophomore girls. Miss Sidney Reading and Miss Winona Prince are the advisors. ad-visors. This group Is modeled after af-ter the Las Vegas High School Rhythmettes. The group was organized Feb. 3, 1956. It has been practicing constantly after school, at noon and two hours on Saturday in nrttor far th first nerformance which will be March 12 at the high school pep rally. Later the same night the girls will march at the half-time of the C S U basketbaU game. The officers are: Linda Knell, president; Clyda Porter, vice president, and Susan Adams, secretary. sec-retary. Mar. 19: Cedar vs. Parowan (Region (Re-gion Six Championship). Band Notes A near capacity crowd was on hand last Saturday night to see the Cedar High School Band present pre-sent an outstanding concert in the C S U auditorium. A special guest artist, Sigurd Rascher, the world famous saxophonist, also appeared on the program. Mr. HeUand, band instructor, said, "I feel the band did an exceptionally ex-ceptionally good job and was a credit to the school and community." com-munity." Many such compliments were heaped on the band members mem-bers by the townspeople attending. attend-ing. Mr. Rascher stated that the high school band was playing music on the college level and that the students gave a first-rate first-rate performance. Also, he stated that the people should be proud of the musical achievements for such a small town. A reception followed the concert con-cert and the band members Introduced In-troduced their parents to Mr. Rascher. Mr. HeUand also said that the band was anticipating a concert tour in the southern Nevada area later in the year. Spring Vacation Next Thursday and Friday school will be dismissed at Cedar Ce-dar High for the annual Spring vacation. The vacation is held then, so that the students can go to the state basketball tournament tourna-ment In Provo without missing I schooj. As of now it Isn't settled whether whe-ther school will be held this Sat urday In order that those going to the tournament can leave on Wednesday morning, Instead of Wednesday night, or not. Redmen The time is appropriate to give the Redmen some publicity and let them know that the students are behind them ell the way, whether they win or lose in the tournament. After completing a not-too-good pre season schedule the Redmen weren't expected to go very far this year in basketball, but they did. For the first time in several years they captured the Dixie Division title and will tac kle the Parowan Rams lor tne Region Six trophy. Team members carrying the hopes of C H S into the tournament tourna-ment are: Ken Griener, Sheldon Hefner, Terry Rosenberg, Otis Mc-Call, Mc-Call, Dan Webster, Gordon Slack, Reed Murdock. Mike Frame. Jerry Jer-ry Farnsworth, Reed Helwood, Sheldon Sargent and Raymond Bauer. We're also proud of the coach, Ray Englestead. Congratulations Congratu-lations on your fine season!And good luck In the tournament. The pep club and pep band will accompany the team to Provo along with scores of students. Tennis Mr. Glen Anderson has been busy for quite a while organizing varsity tennis for the boys at Ce dar High. Twenty hopefuls are practicing in hopes of being one of the five to make the team. The Cedar High tennis team will compete In the division tour-nament tour-nament and the division playoffs play-offs will be held here in connection con-nection with the track and field meet this spring. We're glad to have another sports activity in our schedule and hope it's as successful as the others have been. Notes A new senior girl was welcomed wel-comed to the Cedar High campus cam-pus this week. She is Loretta Freeman, formerly from Dove Creek, Colo." In past years, the Cedar High students have built a good reputation as polite, courteous students, and have received invitations to come back again. Your actions will determine de-termine the future of our participation parti-cipation In the tournament. So don't do something in a few foolish seends to destroy a thing it has taken years to establish, a good reputation. Have fun, but keep it clean and harmless.
