Show MIA Play writing Competition Opened by Church The 1956 M I A Play writing competition is now open and closing clos-ing date is Sept. 30, 1956, It was announced today by the MIA Drama Committee of the General Board of the Y VV M I A and Y M M I A, auxiliary organizations organiza-tions of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Manuscripts are being -considered in four classes as follows: Class A for full-length plays; Class B for musicals, and Class C for short plays, with a special category, "Young Writers Section" Sec-tion" for authors who have not yet reached their 20th birthdays. All plays received will be rated superion excellent or good for publication or reject. Those accepted ac-cepted for publication wl'l be purchased for the 1957 MIA Book of Plays at rates which vary with the rating of excellence. excel-lence. Full-length plays and musicals judged superior may be purchased purchas-ed for $300; those Judged excellent excel-lent may be purchased for $200, and those good may be purchased purchas-ed for $100. Short plays Judged superior may be purchased for $150; those excellent may be purchased pur-chased for $100 and those good may be purchased for $50. Plays received in the "Young Writers Section" may be purchased pur-chased at the same rates. The MIA purchases the right to publish plays In the annual MIA Book of Plays and the right for regularly organized M I A groups to produce such plays without further royalty arrangements. arrange-ments. All other rights remain the property of the authors. Membership In the L D S Church Is not a prerequisite but all plays' are subject to the standards of that group. Plays submitted must be typewritten type-written without extensive handwritten hand-written corrections or notations and must be bound in a cover of some kind. They must not be postmarked post-marked later than Sept. 30, 1956. There Is no limit as to subject matter of the plays nor the type of treatment. Plays wUI he Judged Judg-ed for play-worthiness. However, there Js a definite need for plays using teen-age casts.
