Show SATURDAY, MARCH 24 Southern Utah Teachers' Assn. Plan First Annual Convention Plans are now complete for the first annual convention conven-tion of the Southern Utah Teachers Assn., which will be held this year in Cedar City on Saturday, March 24. The S U T A was organized 20 years ago in the Cedar City Junior High School building in Cedar City. Since that time the organization has carried on its election of officers and other business by committee, telephone and corres pondence, and during that time the number of teachers has almost al-most doubled. Considerable time and effort has gone into the planning of this first convention with the hope that it may be the beginning begin-ning of regular conventions each spring. Besides the annual election of officers during the convention the committee has planned several special and significant educa tional and social functions for the teachers and their partners. Invitations Extended Board members of each district dis-trict are being sent special invitations invi-tations to attend. Parents and school patrons are cordially invited in-vited to attend all general sessions ses-sions where interesting discussions discus-sions will be held lntersperced with appropriate musical numbers. num-bers. The Escalante Hotel has invited invit-ed the teachers to use its facilities' facili-ties' as general headquarters and all those attending: are requested to call there and register and receive re-ceive their ballot for voting during dur-ing the day. The first general session will be held at 11 a. m. in the new C S U library auditorium building. build-ing. After appropriate flag ceremonies cere-monies and prayer, chamber string music will be gived under the direction of Professor Roy L. Halversen of C S U. Supt Ian-thus Ian-thus Wright - of Iron County School District wUl give a word of welcome to the teachers. A special feature of this hour will be a talk by Karl Burns of the National Educational Assn. whose subject will be, "Why an SUTA?" Panel Discussion At 2 p. m. will come a panel discussion on "Teacher Merit Rating" Ra-ting" a report that the entire state has been waiting for., This will be the first release of any In. formation regarding merit rating since the study began over two years ago. The three districts, Provo, Jordan Jor-dan and Sevier, who were assigned as-signed the action research studies stu-dies by the state will participate In this panel discussion. Dr. J. C. This wUl be given In the new C S U auditorium at 8 p. m. and will be free to all members and partners. As special guests' of the convention con-vention Allen West, U E A execu. tive secretary, and the entire board of trustees have accepted an invitation and will hold their regular board meeting In Cedar City Friday night prior to the big day and will attend all the exercises Saturday. |
