Show Money Matters It seems that it is about time that some attempt be made in Cedar City to organize some type of "Community "Commu-nity Chest" program, to overcome a succession of drives . to raise funds for various charitable purposes. There is probably no commpnity in the state or anywhere any-where that responds more generously to these charity drives, and there is no desire on anyone's part to restrict such generous response. However, it would be well to make it possible to make one contribution to cover all charita-; charita-; ble drives and to restrict activities to one drive during the year. v This would not only be much more convenient for the contributor, but would save a tremendous amount of time :s lor those who conduct the drives. As an illustration, Jan-; Jan-; uary is devoted to the March of Dimes campaign, with , everyone asked to contribute with a large group of people devoting much time to the campaign. Next comes the Heart Fund campaign during February, with more contributions con-tributions to be made and another group of people devoting de-voting much time to the program. March brings the annual an-nual Red Cross drive, with the activities of January and February being repeated in both money and time. Other campaigns continue through the year with the same problems. Much time and effort could be saved if one major drive for all purposes could be conducted each year, and certainly the amount to be collected would be as large as the overall collections under the plesent plan. Efforts along this line have been made in the past, the most recent having been made in 1954 by the Retail Merchants .committee, with Forrest Hunter as chairman. However, this was strictly on a business firm basis and needed to be more far-reaching to become a reality. We hope that those who have been called upon to conduct con-duct the campaigns in the past will lend leadership to the organization of a one-collection all-purpose move. |
