Show Nov. 17 is Deadline for Navy ROTC Hopefuls High school seniors and graduates grad-uates have only until November 17 to apply for the Navy's Reserve Re-serve Officer Training Corps. Applicants Ap-plicants will take the nationwide competitive examination on December De-cember 9 as the first step toward an appointment as midshipman. Designed to supplement the officer of-ficer output of the Naval Aca demy, the NROTC program makes it possible for a young man to earn a regular commission commis-sion while studying at a civilian college of his choice which has an NKOTC unit. All tuition, fees and books are furnished by the Navy, and the student receives an annual retainer of $f00 for not more than four years. During Dur-ing the summers the student goes on interesting training cruises to many parts of the world. After completing the usual us-ual four vear college course, he is commissioned in the Regular Navy or Marine Corps and goes on active duty as a prospective career officer in the Naval service. ser-vice. High school seniors and graduates grad-uates who have reached the 17th anniversary of birth and have not reached the 21st anniversary of birth on July 1, 1962 may apply ap-ply for the NROTC aptitude test. Those who make a oualifying j score will be given a rigid phys-, phys-, ical exam early in 1962. From the number of qualified young men remaining in competition, at least 1G00 will be selected to begin their annual careers next September. |
