URIC Democrats Show Strong in Cedar City Race The drought of the Democratic party in Cedar City came to a complete end Tuesday evening as some 2364 voters went to the polls to name a new Mayor and two new city councilmen. AH three candidates named were on the Democratic ticket and the sweep, although by a slim margin, mar-gin, gave the party control of the city council. Kumen Gardner, who just last year was named as Iron County's representative to the State House of Representatives, was successful success-ful Tuesday in his bid for the Mayorship of Cedar City, defeating defeat-ing incumbent Arnold Anderson, Republican, by the slim margin of 32 votes. In winning the race Gardner won 10 of the 14 districts dis-tricts in Cedar City, but one of the districts was by as slim a margin as one vote. Named to the city council were ' Lowell Sherratt and Roy P. (Pug) Urie, both on the Democratic ticket. The won out over their Republican counterparts Dixie Leavltt and Richard Stuckl. Voting was comparatively light, as is usually the case In a municipal election. A total of 2364 votes were cast In the race far Mayor. Last year in the presidential campaign, cam-paign, the 14 districts of Cedar City recorded a total vote of 3302, which is 938 votes more were cast in Tuesday's election. Sherratt, in winning the council post, garnered the highest vote in the Cedar City election with a total of 1280. Urie was close be-hind be-hind with 1203 and that was Just 24 votes more than was cast for Republican Stuckl, 1179. avltt collected a total of 1046.
