Show Walter K. Granger Addresses Cedar City Lions Club Walter K. Granger, former congressman con-gressman from the First U . S. district addressed the members of the Cedar City Lions club at their regular Monday luncheon. Congressman Granger discussed for the club the events leading up to the entrance of the United Nations into the Korean conflict. Giving a complete background of the U. N. and United States entrance into the Korean conflict, Congressman Granger went back to the era of Hitler, discussing the rise and fall of Germany, the league of nations right up to the organization of the U. N. and its decision to enter the Korean conflict. con-flict. Mf. Granger pointed out to the Lions that when the U. N. decided decid-ed to take steps in Korea it was actually the birth of the U. N. He stated that it was the first realization of the U. N. in its promise as a world organization to protect smaller countries from Invasion and conquest. Mr. Granger urged citizens to study the foreign policy of our country and to back the present administration In its undertakings. undertak-ings. In this way only, he stated, will peace come to the world. With the U. S. In a position of world leadership that it has not held before It is imperative that the citizens understand the prom-lems prom-lems and decisions of the state department. Prior to Congressman Granger's Grang-er's address he gave praise to the late Sen. Robert A. Taft of Ohio as an Individual with initiative in-itiative and characterized the Republican Re-publican leader as a great American. Amer-ican. Musical numbers on the program pro-gram were under the direction of Mrs. Beth Leigh. Red Heywood gave a piano solo and Kenneth McKnight rendered a vocal solo. Monday, Aug. 10, the speaker for the Lions luncheon will be Edwin L. Peterson of the College of Southern Utah who will discuss dis-cuss the influence of Communism Commun-ism in the Pacific. The musical program will consist con-sist of vocal duets by Mrs. Floyd Munford and Mrs. Emeline Adams. j |
