Show Ceremonies Mark Opening of New Playground Ceremonies, dedicating the recently re-cently constructed playground on 100 North. 1150 West by the Cedar Ce-dar City Kiwanis club, were held Monday evening at the playground play-ground and the facilities turned over to the children of the city. Therol McArthur acted as master mast-er of ceremonies for the dedicatory dedica-tory services that took place of the regular club meeting of the Kiwanians. Mayor L. V. Broad-bent Broad-bent addressed the parents and children in attendance. Mayor Broadbent commended I the Cedar City Kiwanis club for I its diligent efforts and expressed his gratitude for the Kiwanis club and the initiative of the workers. According to Mayor Broadbent the club made a survey sur-vey of the city and located this playground project in an area which was lacking in recreational recreation-al facilities. Children of the northwest corner of the city were a long distance from the city park facilities and also from school playgrounds. Credit was also given during the short ceremonies to Frank Milne, who was the project chairman chair-man for the playground,' and to Floyd Atkin, a member of the club, who spent many hours constructing con-structing the equipment that has been placed in the playground area. Completely enclosed in a high wire fence the playground has 12 swings, several teeter totters and three sand boxes. In order to make a more attractive playground play-ground the club contemplates planting grass this fall, as well as planting some shade trees for future years' benefit. Following the brief ceremony free milk nickles and popsicles were given to all in attendance. Elwyn Halterman, past president presi-dent of the club, spoke for a mnmpnt on the Dlaveround, its supervision, and the Kiwanis club's part in the upkeep. He pointed out that the club, as a civic organization, was not responsible re-sponsible for accident or injury but the club would be responsible respon-sible for keeping the playground equipment in tip top shape. He urged the parents to come to the playground with their children to help supervise the activities of the children at the park. A word of prayer was offered by Howard Stokes to close the brief ceremonies. |
