Show Canyon Road Discommodious We doubt if there is a gravel surface road in the state of Utah that has as heavy use as the Cedar canyon road connecting Highway 91 at Cedar City with Highway 89, and particularly between Cedar City and Navajo lake. And yet. nothing seems to be done about getting the road oil surfaced. Usually the determining factor in plans for the improvement im-provement of highways is the use of that particular highway. high-way. If that holds true, we fail to see how the proper government gov-ernment agencies can ignore the need for improvements on the Cedar canyon road much longer. That section of road from the Dixie Forest boundary at Wood's ranch to the Kane county line, is unsurfaced, and as a result is terribly ter-ribly dusty at all times because of heavy and fast travel over it. It not only mars the beauty of the drive but also creates cre-ates a hazardous condition, because clouds of dust obstructs ob-structs the view of motorists. It is time that something be done about it. The Cedar City Chamber of Commerce, and other organizations or-ganizations of this area, are in the midst of campaigns to "keep the tourists in this area longer" and one of the ways of doing this is to encourage tourists to visit Cedar Breaks and Navajo lake over the beautiful drive up Cedar canyon. How much longer can these people boost this road for travel if it is not going to be brought up to a standard that motorists have a right to expect.? A vigorous campaign to get a program under way for the oil surfacing of the entire highway that is now merely gravel surfaced would do more to encourage travel in the area than anything else. The travel is heavy now, but it would increase tremendously if a decent road surfacing was provided. |
