Show Rains Cause $10,000 Damage toZion Hiway With the heavy storms apparently appar-ently ended in southern Utah everything seems to be back to normal except that much work has been and and still is in progress pro-gress this week repairing damage dam-age caused by floods that followed fol-lowed the rain storms. Two unusual situations developed devel-oped in Cedar City as a result of the Friday storm in which 1.48 inches of moisture fell in a very short period. Flood waters back-ed-up behind a newly poured concrete wall in the new renney-Woolworth renney-Woolworth building on Main street, with the pressure causing the wall to "iH'nd", but not completely com-pletely give way. Attempts are now being made to bring the wall back into line. Another freak result of the flood was when two large gasoline tanks at the Utah Parks company garage, gar-age, were "floated out of the ground". The greatest amount of damage dam-age however, was done to the Zion National Park highway where a flash flood covered the highway with mud and rocks and washed the road badly in many places, not only doing heavy hea-vy damage to the highway but marooning a number of tourists for several hours. It has been reported re-ported that at least miles of the highway must be resurfaced and that the total cost of repairs re-pairs will be more than $10,000. |
