Show Death Pension Rates for Widows, Children Of Veterans Increased Under New Law (Editor's Note: This is the last of a series of three articles on the new law Increasing compensation compensa-tion and pensions for veterans and their dependents, recently signed by the President). Under the new law, death pension pen-sion rates for widows and children chil-dren of veterans of World War I and II or those with service since June 27, 1950, who died from nonservice-connected disa-bllies, disa-bllies, are as follows: Widow $42.00 $48.00 Widow, 1 child 54.00 60.00 Each add. child 6.00 7.20 No widow, 1 child .. 21.60 26.00 No widow, 2 children 32.40 39.00 No widow, 3 children 43.20 52.00 Each add. child .... 4.80 7.20 Approximately 375,400 dependents depend-ents of 254,250 such deceased veterans on VA pension rolls as of March 31 will be affected by the new rates. The dependents include 224,200 widows and 151,-200 151,-200 children. Widows and children of veterans veter-ans of World War II and those with service since June 27, 1950, who died from non-service connected con-nected disease, are eligible for this death pension only if the veteran had a definitely ascertainable ascer-tainable service-connected di-sease di-sease at the time of his death. All increases in compensation or pension granted by the new law are automatic, VA explained. No application from the beneficiary benefi-ciary is necessary. However, VA again reminded all applicants for pension, whose claims were denied under the old income limitations, and who believe they may qualify under the new limitations, that they will have to file new claims for reconsideration on or after the effective date of July 1, 1952. No automatic review of such rejected claims will be made. Applicants may file these claims at the nearest VA office, or with any organization authorized auth-orized by the VA to accept or present pre-sent claims on behalf of the veterans. vet-erans. . |
