Show Little League Baseball Becoming Popular; Four Teams Compete; 'Minor' League Formed "Little League" baseball after three weeks of play under the leadership of Cleo Petty, city recreation director, has stimulated stimulat-ed much interest in the youngsters young-sters of the city and has produced produc-ed some outstanding results. Four teams have been competing in the league and team sandings as Of Monday, June 30 were as follows: Team Won Lost Pet. Kiwanis Cubs 10 0 1.000 Lion Tamers 5 5 .500 Elks Rulers 4 6 .400 Rotary Rangers .... 1 9 .100 The "little leaguers" range in age from 9 to 12 years old. However, How-ever, a younger group has shown considerable interest, states director di-rector Petty, and a minor league of 8 and 9 year-olds was started Wednesday morning. Four sponsors spon-sors have been acquired for this minor league. Teams participating participat-ing will include: Shriner Eagles, Stevens Giants, Corner Market Yanks, and Utah Parks Flyers. Three days of the week, Monday, Mon-day, Wednesday and Friday are being devoted to league play for the youngsters and Tuesday and Thursday mornings have been set aside by director Petty for the purpose of instruction in fundamentals funda-mentals of the game and personal per-sonal instruction, including hitting, hit-ting, running bases, fielding, pitching and catching. |
