Show Livestock Pioneer Dies at His Home in Glendale Funeral services were held in Glendale Monday for Joseph Fielding Smith, 77, prominent farmer, livestock and businessman business-man of southern Utah, who died at his home in Glendale Thursday, Thurs-day, March 6. He was a brother of the late James, Jacob and John Smith of Cedar City. He was an active civic and church worker in Kane county, and he and his wife served as ordinance workers In the St. George L D S temple for several years. He served as city water-master water-master for over 50 years and helped to organize the Glendale Irrigation company. He was also a member of the town board of trustees and served as town marshal mar-shal for 15 years. He was a foremost pioneer In the livestock and farming business busi-ness in southern Utah and for the past 24 years had owned and operated the Smith hotel in Glendale. Glen-dale. . Mr. Smith was born Dec. 7, 1874, In Glendale, a son of Thomas Tho-mas G. and Anna Cross Leithead Smith, early converts to the LDS church. He married Mary Ellen Watson on Dec. 19, 1900, in the St. George LDS temple. He Is survived sur-vived by his widow and several nieces and nephews. |
