Show Cedar Matron Dies Of Lingering Illness, Services Sat. Funeral services are being conducted con-ducted in the Third ward chapel this afternoon for Mrs. Verena Wood Stephens, 57, wife of John L. Stephens, who died at her home Monday following a lingering lin-gering illness. She had. been in poor health for many months and has been in a critical condition condi-tion during most of the past four months. She was born in Cedar City on April 7, 1894, a daughter of George H. and Elizabeth Ann Bryner Wood. She attended the public schools of Cedar City and the Branch Agricultural college. An active member of the LDS church she had served as an officer of-ficer in the Relief Society and in the Sunday School before poor health forced her retirement from this type of activity. She was a charter member of the Iron Mission camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. On Jan. 13, 1916, she was married mar-ried to Mr. Stephens in Cedar City, and the marriage was later solemnized in the St. George LDS temple.. Surviviiiir. besides here hus band, are six sons and daughters, Mrs. W. V. (La Rue) Spencer, Mrs. William (Ruth) Hills, Mrs. Drex (Maxine) Adams and Floyd W. Stephens, all of Cedar City; Mrs. R. C. (Pauline) McGill, Bur-bank, Bur-bank, Calif, and Elwood J. Stephens, Steph-ens, Bancroft, Ida.; 13 grandchildren; grandchil-dren; five brothers, George A., William H., Preston and Rulon Wood, Cedar City, and Carl Wood Circlevillc; four sisters, Mrs. Blanche Crosby, and Mrs. George M. (Pauline) Hunter, Cedar City; Mrs. Roy (May) Armstrong, Provo, Pro-vo, and Mrs. Daniel L. (Dola) Jones, Enterprise. The funeral service will be conducted con-ducted by Bishop Leo Larson of the Sixth ward, and burial will be in the Cedar City cemetery under the direction of the Southern South-ern Utah mortuary. |
