Show Lady Braves are tourney bound Vikes, Darts finish region action VIEWMONT 57, CLEARFIELD 53 (OT) CLEARFIELD The Lady Vikings logged a 57-53 57-53 OT win over the Clearfield Falcons Friday afternoon, after-noon, avenging an earlier loss that cost Viewmont their perfect record earlier this season, The Vikes, 9-2, 13-6 overall, sank 5 out of 6 overtime over-time free throws to claim victory over their cross county rivals. Behind 25-19 at the half, the Falcons fought their way to the forefront with a 17-10 third period performance perfor-mance which gave CHS a 36-35 lead at the end of three. Viewmont center Jenny Jones, who ended Friday's contest with 19 points, dropped a last-second jumper to force the game into overtime. From there it was all Viewmont. Heather Le Mmon helped pace the Vikes adding 17 to Jones' 19. Mandy Miller followed with 10 to round out Viewmont scoring. Clearfield's Tara Hinds led all scorers with 21 followed by Jennifer Wojciechowski with 13 and Bet- tina Willie with 11. In their last region game of the season, a first place seed going into the 4A state tourney will hinge on tonight's to-night's battle with the 10-1, 18-1 Weber Warriors tonight to-night at home. Viewmont will need to stop the Warriors' powerful inside game to avenge their other regular season loss. Game time is 4 p.m. WEBER 87, DAVIS 47 PLEASANT VIEW The Warriors punctuated a disappointing season for first-year coach Chimane Creer handing the Davis Lady Darts an 87-47 loss on Friday. Weber jumped to a 23-7 first quarter lead, and the Darts never recovered. Webers obvious advantage in size and experience led to the overwhelming Davis defeat. The Darts feature only one starting senior in Chauny Morgan, who was held to only 6 points Friday. Fri-day. h Leading Davis' scoring was Heidi Hall, who logged 14 followed by Rebecca Heusser with 8 Sophomore center Jodi Wimmer also added 6 The loss drops Davis to 2-9 in region and 4-14 overall. Tonight the Lady Darts will take on Bonneville's Lady Lakers at home. The Lakers pounded Lavton Friday 59-38 to extend their season record to 8-3, ' Though the game is purely academic where the Darts are concerned, Davis has a lot riding on its future due to the number of younger players that now make up the team. The second two rounds of the double elimination toumey will be played at Weber State University's Dee Events Center. 3A GIRLS TOURNAMENT Bountiful High will represent south Davis in the state 3A girls' basketball tournament Wednesday at Murray High School. The Braves will enter the double elimination tourney scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday as Region 6's fourth place seed. Bountiful is scheduled to take on the first place finishers from Region 7 at 9 p.m. All games will be played at Murray High. First round tournament tourna-ment pairings are as follows: 10 a.m., Murray vs. Ogden; 11:30 a.m.. Bear River vs. Dixie; 1 p.m., Emery vs. Judge; 2:30 p.m. Springville vs. Mountain Crest or Sky View (depending on Monday's playoff between the two teams); 4:30 p.m., Logan vs. Cedar City; 6 p.m., Jordan vs. Carbon; 7:30 p.m., Pine View vs. Box Elder, 9 p.m., Uintah vs. Bountiful. Play will continue at Murray Thursday, Friday and Saturday. |
