Show Library J delegates J Nathaniel Johnson, Douglas ( Davis, Dixie Cammack, Robert g Peel, Jerome Jones and Sharren Matthews have been selected to be i delegates to the Utah Governors 1 Conference on Library and Infor- - mation Services. The Governor's ' Conference is an ambitious attempt to involve Utahns from all walks of s life in exploring the state's in form a- - tional needs and priorities. Delegates to this conference will ( make recommendations that will be m translated into plans, policies and programs in the 1 990s. Nathaniel Johnson has been an ( active supporter of libraries in m Davis County ever since he and his family moved to Layton. He is a retired military officer, is active in ( political circles, and currently m chairs the Davis County Council on Aging. Douglas Davis is the former ( assistant advertising director for In- m Sight Advertising. He lives in Bountiful and is teacher for Davis i Community Education. He has ( done volunteer work as chair of the m Oak Hills Readathon and as Great J Books Instructor for Gifted and C Talented. ( Dixie Cammack has lived in m Kaysville since 1960. In 1969 she was employed as a librarian-aide at Vae View Elementary School. ( When Farmington Elementary School opened in 1973, she set up the media center for the new school. C Four years ago she was instrumen- tal in organizing the Davis County m Elementary Media Coordinators Association and served as president C for the first year. Robert Peel is a retired officer of - the U.S. Air Force reserve and cur- rendy works for the U.S. Postal ( Service, assigned to the Airport Of- m fice as an expediter. Jerome Jones retired from the m military several years ago, and more m recently retired from industry as a graphic illustrator. Sharren Matthews is the librarian Q at West High School in Salt Lake m City and serves on the Salt Lake School District Library Automation Committee. The last Governor's Conference 0 on library services was held in 1979 and set the agenda for many impor- tant library developments in the w 1980s. As a result of the 1979 con- ference, a far-reaching program of m public library reform, the UPGRADE Process, was 4 implemented. f UPGRADE set standards for - public library certification and pro- vided development grants to help ( libraries grow. The State Library Division began consulting services for libraries and a continuing edu- cation program for library directors ( and trustees. f In response to UPGRADE, ' scores of library jurisdictions form- 1 ed library boards, made significant ( improvements in services, began new programs, received formal ' training, and learned to set goals and make plans to reach them. Their reports will be studied by delegates who have been chosen from the i general public, the information pro- a fessionals, library supporters, and government officials. " In addition, delegates were re- ( quired to attend at least one of six d regional meetings held around the state this past fall to discuss library i issues and hear from both the gen- ( eral public and local library, busi- . ness and community leaders. On Feb. 28 through March 2, delegates will meet at the Salt Lake City Hilton to share what they have ( learned and make their recommendations. recommen-dations.
