Show o o In hardhitting action Boxing tournament delights numerous fans CEDAR CITY - The War Memorial Fieldhouse on the campus of Southern Utah State College lived up to its name Saturday, as a host of boxing and arm-wrestling arm-wrestling wars were conducted there, to the delight of numerous fans. A card of nine amateur bouts and some fine arm wrestling action made up the evening's events. "It went off pretty well," commented Kent Hoyt on the activities. "We were happy with the competition com-petition in the arm wrestling. Our local boys prevailed, showing that they're the best in the State." Cedar City's Joe Wells did, however, lose in the finals to Chris Fairchild of SUSC. Wells has held the arm-wrestling crown for the past couple of years. Southern Utah State's Monty Sorensen finished third. Procedes from Saturday's activities will be used to help the Cedar City Boxing Club pay for travel expenses. Club members will be traveling to St. George April 17 to participate in action there. Looking at Saturday's fights, Jeff Ence, St. George, was a unanimous winner over Troy Goodfellow, Kanab. The two were fighting at 100 pounds. Dennis Riding of Kanab was a winner by unanimous decison over Cedar City's Mark Bryant. Randy Heaton of Kanab won over Danny Stevens of St. George by a TKO. Kanab's Orlando Behn was victorious by unanimous decision over Ben Shorty of St. George. Wayne Horlacher from St. George won by a TKO over Scott Henefick of Cedar. Howard Mackert, Cedar City, won by a TKO over Allen Graviet of St. George. Cedar City's Arnold Pleasant lost a split decision to Jim Torgerson of Kanab. Torgerson was touted as the night's outstanding boxer. Southern Utah State's Wayne Kittrell lost by a TKO to Martie Houton of St. George. Kittrell suffered a bad cut in the first round that caused the fight to be stopped. In the evening's final bout, Tye Outzen won by unanimous decision over Cedar City's Stan An-drewjeski. 1 i . - - M - A disappointed Wayne Kittrell shows his disgust at not being able to continue the fight during boxing action Saturday.
