Show SU women softballers faee New Mexico squad CEDAR CITY A string of 16 consecutive 2 games' aganst Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponents continues this weekend when the Southern Utah State College women's softball team hosts New Mexico Highlands University. The Thunderbird women will play 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. games Friday and 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. games Saturday against NMHU club. The following Wednesday and Thursday the 'Birds move to Gunnison, Colo., for a pair of doubleheaders against Western State College. April 16 and 17, the opponent op-ponent will be Adams State in two doubleheaders at Alamosa, Colo. The 16-straight started Monday and Tuesday when the 'Birds hosted Mesa College in four games. The two teams split Monday's doubleheader, with SUSC winning, 3-0, and losing, 5-1. "We haven't been hitting the ball as well as we should," Bruce Osborne, T-Bird coach indicates. "Our pitching has been resonably good, but the key hits just haven't been coming." Team statistics through April . 3 show SUSC with an anemic .190 team batting average, pam Hansen, who starts at shortstop after joining the team at the start of spring quarter, is the top hitter with a .333 batting average after 12 at bats. Only three regular (not counting Hansen) are batting above . 200. Lori McCurdy, pitcher-first baseman, hits .297; Linda Eames, outfielder, is batting .233; and Denice Long, outfielder is hitting .216. "That's not good enough," Osborne observes. |
