Show New director of nursing for Valley View Medical Center CEDAR CITY -"I like what I see here. The level of care here at the hospital is really very good," said Valley View Medical Center's new director of nursing Allen Berry at a recent press conference where he was introduced to the area media. A native of Cedar City, Berry seemed not only optimistic about improving im-proving the nursing program at the medical center, but also added that he hoped to be of assistance in improving other areas of the Medical Center as well. Nursing experience is not new to Berry. After graduating from Cedar High School in 1967, he joined the Army in 1969 where he served as a medical corpman in Vietnam. "What really got me interested in this line of work is the nine months that I spent in the field as a medical corpman corp-man with a mechanized infantry divisision," said Berry. After concluding his military duty, Berry went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University. Before coming to Cedar, Berry worked at St. Joseph's Community Hospital and Barnes Medical Center in Vancouver, Washington. "I was excited about coming back to Cedar. I like what I see here." he said. "The physical facilities that are offered in terms of care and diagnostic equipment are really very good," stated Berry. He also added that the Medical Center may in the future redesign the intensive care unit at the hospital. "The areas needs more outside stimulus, and the physical space is not adequate," said Berry who hopes to help with the design and also in. insuring that the facility will meet the needs of of a critical care unit. One of the primary things Berry intends to do is to upgrade the nursing education at the Medical Center. "The level of care here at the hospital is really very good, but-1 would have more nursing education available," said Berry. Berry and his wife, DiAnne, . have five children and plan to reside in Cedar. Berry is the son of Ross and Geraldine Berry, also from Cedar. |
