Marshal also placed fourth in the 440-yard 440-yard dash. j The Beaver medley relay team ended up in sixth place, and Dave Roberts unisnea sixth in the mile to round out the scoring for Beaver. PAROWAN STUMBLES Parowan didn't have one of their better days Saturday, but they did have several key performers who did not attend the meet for various reasons and should be tougher in future meets. j i ! Jeif Patterson ran a personal-best time in the mile, clocking a 4:53.2 to finish fourth. I i A Ram mile relay team of Kelly j Orton, Robbie Stevens, Jeff Patterson j and Wade Adams finished fifth. The Parowan medley relay team of Stevens, Doug Rogerson, Adams and Patterson placed fourth. ST. GEORGE - A host of high schools participated in the Dixie Invitational In-vitational track meet here Saturday, and Cedar, Beaver and Parowan high schools had several athletes turn in outstanding individual performances. The meet was divided so that class 1-A 1-A and 2-A schools competed against each other, and class 3-A and 4-A institutions in-stitutions did likewise. Cedar finished sixth in the larger division which was won by South High; and Beaver ended up fifth among the smaller schools with Richfield winning handily in that classification. CEDAR IMPROVING Improvement is the word that best describes the performance of Cedar High athletes Saturday. Several Rcdmen performers turned in performances per-formances that were their personal bests, and nearly all came through with their best times or marks of the young season. "Everybody ran better than they had," remarked Cedar coach Bob Schexnayder. "I was really pleased with their performances." Leading the way for Cedar was Darrin Condie in the pole vault. Condie vaulted 11-6 to capture first place. "We felt pretty good about that," stated Schexnayder. The Cedar vaulter tied with another performer at 11-6, but he won on the basis of fewest misses.' K.C. Jones garnered a second in the high jump. Jones jumped 6-2 for his best effort of the season. John Bishop was third in the jabelin, tossing the spear 127 feet. Freshman Boyd Esplin earned a seventh-place finish in the 110-yard high hurdles, clocking a time of 16.84 seconds. Esplin was also seventh in the intermediate hurdles. Speedster Danny Harris ran an 11.1 time in the 100, good enough to qualify lor state. Mike Garfield ran a 4:40 in the mile, his personal best. That fine time left him in third place. David Dix ran a personal-best time in the two-mile run, clocking a 10:02 for second place. Troy Nielson qualified for the finals in the 200-meter dash, but he didn't run in the final heat due to injury. Jimmy Ipson and David Hart both clocked personal bests in the 880-yard run. Both runners are freshmen. BEAVER STRONG Chris Davis paced the Beaver Beavers to a fifth-place finish in division one. Davis won both 'the 880-yard 880-yard run and the mile to establish himself as one of the premier distance runners in the State. He clocked a 4:47.45 in the mile and 2:03.60 in the half. Parowan's Jeff Patterson vaulted 11-6 to capture first-place honors in the event. Cedar tracksters turned in several good performances in the tough invitational. Up, up and away.
