Tigers down Beavers in baseball thriller HURRICANE - The Beaver Beavers baseball boys traveled to face the Hurricane Tigers Friday, and the Beavers lost a 4-3 thriller as Hurricane scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the game. The loss drops the Beavers' season record to 3-6 overall and 0-1 in region play. Beaver is forced to compete with class 2-A schools, as 1-A baseball competition is conducted in the fall. Beaver is among several 1-A schools that compete with 2-A schools in the spring because they have football programs func tioning in the fall. ' Beaver competes in a division with Hurricane and Kanab in baseball play. The top finisher of the three will advance to playoff action. Presently, Kanab sits on top in division play, followed by .Hurricane and Beaver. The teams will each play four games to determine who advances to playoff competition. 'We've been playing a lot of baseball over here," explained Beaver coach Dennis Alldredge, reviewing the nine games played. "We've played some pretty good games. I think we can compete, but we've had some problems this year." Beaver still has seven games remaining, and with some good fortune and good play could earn a playoff berth. Against Hurricane, Tim Olsen pitched and went the distance. Chris Branvall was cited by Alldredge as doing some excellent hitting. The Beavers trailed 2-1 going into the sixth inning. They scored two in the top of the sixth to go ahead 3-2. Hurricane scored one in the bottom of the same inning to tie the game at 3-3. |
