Show SU tracksters to compete CEDAR CITY - The better odds for warm weather have prompted the Southern Utah State College track team to travel southwest instead of northeast for a Saturday meet. SUSC will enter a 14-member 14-member squad in an "all comers" meet Saturday at Bakersfield, Calif. The Thunderbirds had tentatively ten-tatively planned to participate in the Utah State University Invitational In-vitational at Logan this week. "We need a warm weather workout in the very worst way," Boyd Adams, SUSC track coach, explains. "We have had only three good workout days in the last month, and we aren't making any progress in our conditioning. We are almost slipping backward." back-ward." The bakersfield meet will be hosted by Cal State Bakersfield and is expected to attract several track clubs in addition to a number of NCAA Division II colleges from southern and central California. "The competition should be great," Adams predicts. Provided the weather is good, two SUSC seasonal best times in the relays could be established. The exact travel contingent hasn't been determined, but expected to compete for the Thunderbirds are sprinters Aaron and Adrian Sampson, Leo Hebert, and Scott Guthrie; hurdler-sprinter Gordon Rawlinson; pole vaulter Bruce Bryan, distance runners Hernando Her-nando Hernandez, Gordon Hyde, Dale Cable, and Chad Jones: high jumper Scott Henderson, and half-miler half-miler Russell Eyre. |
