Show SUSC golfers to tune games : CEDAR CITY -Golfers from Southern Utah State College will spend five days in southern California fine i . tuning their games in preparation for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference meet in late ! April. Coach Tom Kingsford has his SUSC team entered en-tered in three meets during the April 12-16 week. i "The competition will be good, the promise for good weather is good, and we'll be working hard in competition almost every day. It can't do anything but help us," Kingsford says. The Thunderbirds open the week at Claremont, Calif., Monday in a four-team four-team tournament hosted by Pomona Pitzer College on the Red Hill Golf Course. The next day SUSC and California Lutheran College will battle in dual competition on the Los Robles course in Thousand Oaks, Calif. Following a day of rest Wednesday, the 'Birds will battle with 10 other schools Thursday and Friday in the 36-hole California Riversie Tournament on the Quail Lake course. The 16th annual tournament will include 18 holes each day against Cal Irvine, Redlands University, UCLA, Cal State Nor-thridge, Nor-thridge, Grand Canyon, Cal State Riverside, Cal State Fullerton, Point Loma, University of San Diego and Cal State Dominguex Hills. "We didn't get much practice in last week because of the weather. That may hurt us in California, but we think the week of concentrated competition may be just what we need to be in top form for the RMAC meet in Denver," Kingsford pointed out. "Our team depth is starting to help us. All six golfers scored in the last meet," the coach says. |
