Show Brian Head fire causes about $40,000 in damages BRIAN HEAD "A sounding smoke detector is probably the only thing that saved ' the lives of those occupying two condominium units at the Challet Village," said Brian Head Fire Chief, Steve Lutz. A fire resulting in an estimated $40,000 damage to four Chalet Village condominium units late Monday evening was apparently ignited by an "instant-on" television set located in an unoccupied condominium, according to Lutz. He also added that the television had probably been smoldering for approximately ap-proximately half an hour before triggering the smoke alarm. Dr. Dallas Long, of New Port, Calif., who was staying in a condominium unit at the time, heard the smoke alarm and immediately alerted Chalet Village personnel, who contacted the fire department, stated Lutz. The fire spread from the first room where the television was located through the chimney and into three other rooms, said Lutz. He added that the room containing the . television set was severely damaged both by fire and smoke, but that the additional three rooms were damaged mostly by smoke. |
