Show Volunteers needed "Volunteers make a tremendous difference in the fight against cancer, and the American Cancer Society .. needs more of them, "declared Doris Williams, chairman of the 1981 Cancer Crusade. The remark came as an opening for "Cancer Month," to ..continue throughout April. Our theme this year is "You Are the Key to Cancer Control," Williams said. "We urge all citizens in Iron County to join in our effort to help teach their families, friends and associates how to protect themselves them-selves against cancer." ACS volunteers - will-distribute will-distribute life-saving information during the month of April and ask for support of the Society's vital programs to advance the prevention, preven-tion, detection, treatment and eventual elimination of cancer. Williams pointed out that some forms of cancer once considered hopeless are now curable, and for the person whose cancer is detected in an early stage,, the chances of cure are high. "We know that people really want to do something about cancer," can-cer," declared Williams. "Our programs which motivate people to have -regular-, cancer-related checkups already are carried to millions of people in this country, but we need more volunteers to make sure that Americans will get our lifesaving information." "The volunteer is the key to cancer control," Williams said. "Their efforts support vital research, and programs of education and service. Each person has a reason why he or she volunteers. One may be a recovered cancer patient; another may have lost a loved one to cancer; someone else may just understand the great need to help fight the threat to everyone. Whatever the reason, together we can make a difference. |
