Show Cedar tennis takes off ' M ike Searle's debut as a tennis coach at Cedar High proved to be a successful one. The Redmen netters defeated the Dinos from Carbon High on Tuesday to open their 1981 season on a positive note. ', 1 The win was also a satisfying one to rookie coach Mike Searle. He is high on the team's prospects and was particularly par-ticularly satisfied with the victory over Carbon. l.ayne Stobbe played very well and represented the Reds in their number one singles spot. Stobbe defeated a highly touted David Verdi 6-0, 6-2. Searle commented, "The Carbon coach was very high on . Verdi, yet 1. as ne handled him easily." .stobbe will be filling the number one single spot lor Cedar throughout the season. Steve Shirts was defeated in the number two singles match by close scores of 4-6, 4-6. "Steve was pressed by a commitment to leave town and is capable of playing better" Searle remarked. "He should do well for us." Layne Matthews shut out his op- , ponent in the number three slot by lopsided scores of 6-0, 6-0. Searle was very pleased with Matthews' performance. per-formance. In doubles action Cedar's number one team of William Tayson and Quinn Matthews won 6-2, 6-1 and their number two team of Ben Felix and Darren Averett was defeated.
