Show Letters to the editor Against resort Editor: 1 This is an open letter to the residents ol Cedar City and Iron County. I am a businessman from California, and 1 have been following the stories in your local newspapers concerning the proposed Engen Mountain Ski Resort. I must say, I am appalled. I can't believe what I have been reading. My wife and I were in town for a while and I felt compelled to write this letter. We are avid skiers and have traveled all over the country to ski. A ski resort does have it's place, but Cedar Canyon is not the place! 1 have lived in large cities all my life, where there is nothing but people, cars, garbage and noise. I do a lot of traveling, and I must say Cedar Mountain is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. When I travel through town and talk lo people about the resort, the only thing I hear from the ones that are for it is look at the money it will bring into Cedar City. All I can say to that is where are these people's brains? Do they not realize what they have? The beauty that surrounds their daily lives, right up the mountain. When you are sourrounded by nothing but asphalt and concrete, it makes one really appreciate what you people have right in your own back yard. ,11 you let your city and county officials of-ficials get away with passing something like this, I recommend that it is time to elect new ones. My one plea to you, the people of Cedar City and the surrounding areas is, DO NOT LET THEM DO THIS TO YOUR MOUNTAIN! Making a mess out ol something so beautiful is an awfully large price to pay, just so someone can make a dollar. And being a businessman I know the dollar won't go into your pocket. R. C. Moore Los Angeles, Calif. Commends police Editor: I am writing to express appreciation ler the very efficient manner in which the members' of the Cedar City Police Force responded to and disposed of the recent burglary at my place of business. My partner and I were made aware that a burglary was in progress when a silent alarm was triggered at our residence. We arrived at the premises in time to cause the thieves to abandon their attempt to break into our safe.- Within a very lew minutes, the police were contacted and responded so quickly that they were able to take a suspect into custody. Their following actions were professional and thorough, displaying the effects, of competent training. Paul Beck Cedar City 'Me too' Editor: We have read with interest the letters from Jim Jones and Jim Flouse as published in your March 12 issue. We heartily endorse their views and add the words "me too". Mrs. Elias W. Leigh Mr. & Mrs. Wm B. Leigh Verda Leigh Baggett . Walter P. Baggett all Cedar City |
