Show Improvement district set The Cedar City Redevelopment Committee Monday approved a four block area downtown as a special improvement district, subject to approval ap-proval by the Cedar City Council. The district, if approved by the Council, will be established in an effort to provide a system for store owners in the redevelopment area to upgrade landscaping, parking and store fronts in the area between 100 West and 100 East streets and Center and 200 North streets. According to Chairman Dixie Leavitt, the district will be established as any other. Those businesses will receive '. bond money for the improvements, im-provements, and they will retire the bond through a special added tax. Those businesses which receive the improvements will pay for them. "This will be paid for by the people in the district." However, Leavitt noted, the City Council will need to hold a public hearing and give approval before the district could be established. The decision came after Brian Jorgenson, chairman of the needs subcommittee, recommended a slightly larger district. However, the committee members were in general agreement that the first district should be condensed as much as possible. Among the improvements that could come to the stores n the district are increased and improved parking, new curbs and gutters and landscaping. The improvement district is part of a many-faceted plan by the committee to revitalize the downtown shopping area by upgrading existing stores and establishing new ones. |
