Show Freeborn receives award Early-season track meets are supposed to be for tuning up. Competition, and times, usually warm up as the season progresses. Someone obviously forgot to tell Parowan High's Scott Freeborn that. Parowan's premier quarter-miler started this season even ahead of where he left off last year, winning the 400-meter 400-meter run at the massive Page Invitational in Arizona. His time of 52.0 was not only good enough to win first place at this meet, but was just a shade off the 51.1 1-A state record he hopes to soon break-and break-and all this in the first meet of the year. "Scott has been working real hard this year," said coach Bob Tobler. "Don't be surprised sur-prised to see a state championship from him in the 400 this year." Freeborn ran consistently con-sistently all day, getting 52.16 and 52.0 in his two individual 400 races and running a 52.4 split in his leg of the Ram's mile relay team. Not only is Freeborn shooting for a state record, now well within his reach, but he could well approach 50 seconds, a good time in anyone's book, by the end of the year. Freeborn is the first spring sports participant honored this year, and will receive a certificate from the Record noting his selection. |
