In addition, Bishop indicated that among those high school seniors who have committed to attend SUSC, there are a number of players who have the ability to stick with the program and help t the Thunderbird teams of the future. Although hesitant to single out too many players until after they have proven themselves, Bishop did mention a lew that he thinks will challenge for playing t time this fall. "Dave Carter (6-1, 195, Cedar City) just may be our top recruit. He is a good one. We are also very pleased with a pair of linemen they may go on either offense or defense from Las Vegas. Scott Garrity (6-5, 220) and Thayne Maxwell (6-6, 215) are both dandies from Las Vegas High School." Bishop is also high on Brad Ezor, a 5-10, 5-10, 190-pound running back from Bishop Gorman High in Las Vegas. "He's one of the best from that area this year." Bishop s said. "We have a number of players from local high schools who look good to me," Bishop said. '"These include Gary Blackham (6-5, 230 TE) from Hurricane, Craig Blackner (6-2, 195 DE) from Beaver, and Dirk (6-3, 185 TE) and Dave Lopour (6-0, 185 LB) from Cedar City. And there are a bunch of others who look like they have good potential." At least 12 and possibly more of the players e earned all-state honors in either Utah or Nevada. Future SL'SC quarterback David Carter Southern Utah State College Football Coach Jack Bishop recently described the almost-completed high school recruiting season as a "good year." SUSC, which threatened until the final minutes of the final game to win a share of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship in 1980, figures it has landed "six or eight players who will probably start to help . . . almost immediately. |
