Show Indian Art Shown during April i The Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery, Southern Utah State College, Cedar City, announced that an exhibition of 50 works by contemporary American Indian artists will be on display April 3 to 25, 1980. According to Prof. Thomas A. Leek, SUSC art curator, the exhibition is on loan from the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Artists from Pauite, Navajo, Pueblo, Hopi, Zuni, Mission, Washoe, Apache, Onadaga, Choctaw, Eskimo, Chippewa, Chip-pewa, Crow, Cheyenne, Kiowa, Sioux, Caddo, Black-feet, Black-feet, Pima, Pawnee and Cree cultures will be represented in the exhibition. The display will include paintings, sculpture, ceramics and baskets in a variety of media by several outstanding Indian artists with national and international in-ternational reputations. The art consists of contemporary statements in contemporary styles by contemporary Indians who are reflecting their heritage and interactions in-teractions with cultural developments today. The exhibition is presented in conjunction with SUSC's Annual American Indian Week, April 14 to 18, 1980. The art exhibition will open to the public Thursday evening, April 3, 7 to 9 p.m. A special program at 8 p.m. ' will feature another film in the series The Originals-Women in Art: "Nevelson in Process" and "Alice Neel-Collector Neel-Collector of Souls." Refreshments Refresh-ments will be provided and served by members from the SUSC Intercultural Center. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. weedays; 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. |
